Backyard Hives
Make your home a pollinator destination
Our greatest joy is providing a supportive hand to our clients, both in teaching all we know about beekeeping practices and maintaining a backyard buzzing with life.
Benefits of Backyard Beehives
-
Following a complimentary backyard inspection for beekeeping suitability, your certified beekeeper will provide full-season maintenance of the hive. This includes installation, productivity and safety inspections, honey harvest (if desired), and removal at any time.
-
Italian honeybees are gentle but aggressive pollinators that can enhance blooms and volume of produce by up to 50%. Upon request, our backyard service includes several varieties of complimentary native plants to encourage pollinator synergy. Ask for details!
-
Season-dependent, honey production is a rewarding aspect of beekeeping. Enjoy the first 8oz (1/2 pound of honey) direct from your hive. We sell the remainder to support local farms. We do all the harvesting.
-
By hosting a backyard beehive, you are contributing to critical agriculture research. We track your bees behavior and pollination progress to optimize biodiversity locally. We share our findings back with farmers and academia as part of our commitment to creating more sustainable agricultural.
We can work with towns to obtain proper permitting, if necessary.
On-call personal beekeeper, call with any questions or for swarm removals.
Handmade, pine beehives from our home. Customizable colors as well.
For extended rentals, we make every effort to winterize properly and survive the hive through the winter (2024 reports were 50% survival). Regardless, we requeen all hives yearly for maximum productivity.
As bees are livestock, they too need occasional treatments. We apply organic mite treatments, such as VarroxSan. Safe enough for use with honey supers.

Beekeeping Season
Hive Install
Late March/Early April: Following a tour of your backyard, we install your complete nucleus hive in a safe and optimal location, complete with a thriving colony of some 40,000 gentle Italian bees. Once settled, busy forager bees depart the hive, single-file, at a rate of about 2 per second.
Inspections & Learning
April - September: The beekeeping season begins! We provide bi-weekly inspections throughout the season, employing the latest techniques in hive management, organic pest/disease control, and production. We teach on-spot, but if you are unable to join - no problem! We come regardless to do the proper inspection.
Honey Harvest & Winterizing
September: At the end of the season, enjoy 8oz of your hive’s honey, a biodiversity report, and hive winterization if your rental is desired for next season. While New England winters are harsh, bees have a 50% chance of survival until next Spring. Through our care, we give them the very best opportunity.
